From 1901 Parade has become a Philadelphia tradition. The Mummers are a group of banjo strummers, saxophone players, and musical and comical acts all marching along the street. They were dressed in bejeweled costumes that were decorated with multicolored feathers. The costumes were very beautiful and varied in their prizes.
Dating back to the pre colonial times the mummers is an old Philadelphia tradition. One can see a blend of many cultures and traditions and people from different European ancestries.
The struts of the mummers are famous all over the world. The Mummers Museum holds a large gallery of costumes that dates back to the past. The museum also has a pirate ship and a video that has cached the memories of the past parades. A beautiful gift shop is available with variety of miniature mummer’s dolls.
